This season, let’s hone for the holidays!
Yes, I said “hone”—as in sharpening your skills and becoming more attune to your body.
The holidays are an amazing time of rejoicing, gathering with family and friends, and food—oh, the glorious food!
Being a Health Coach is often a risky business when I am out with friends. They tend to notice every morsel that passes my lips and they aren’t afraid to ask me, “Are you going to eat that?!”
Hey, everyone needs to indulge once in a while, including Health Coaches! (Pssst... Pass the Turtles, please!)
However, since we all tend to overindulge during the holidays, I have a secret weapon that I put into play whenever the holidays approach—something that helps to counteract the occasional indulgence.
It’s my Holly-Day Detox, and I would like to share it with you.
Hone your skills in making wise choices this season, allow yourself SOME holiday overindulgence, and then, follow this daily regime for a quick detox…
Daily - Add 1 tbsp. of Apple Cider Vinegar to a tall glass of water.
The benefits of ACV are numerous: it helps regulate the PH of your skin and stomach, especially if you have been ingesting acidic cocktails late at night ;) It helps to instantly detox your body, it’s great for the lymphatic system, aids in reducing heartburn and can also help you to lose weight.
Daily – Drink lots of water and herbal teas.
Daily – Meditate.
The benefits of a daily meditation are worth the effort of putting aside this special time for yourself every day. It reduces stress, increases energy, rejuvenates your body, gives you better sleep, increases your focus and patience, it helps to reduce headaches and muscle pain.
Daily - Green juice or smoothie.
Packing nutrients and superfoods into a delicious drink will help keep you on track over the holidays, AND it’s simple!
This particular recipe is one of my favourites...Kale Pineapple Mint, yummm!
Kale Pineapple Mint Juice
Blend 1/4 cucumber, 1 green apple, 1 cup of pineapple with 3 kale leaves, 1 handful of mint, juice and the pulp of half a lemon.
Adds more natural vitamins and minerals to your body and helps to build your immune system.
An interesting thing will happen when you practice these daily rituals…
You become more attuned to your body and more aware of what you are ingesting. You will actually feel fuller, and throughout the holidays, you will find it much easier to refuse the second piece of pecan pie!
Feel good and have fun this holiday season!
